Churches:

Grace Lutheran in rural Ohiowa and St. John's Lutheran Church at 510 S. Summit St. provide worship services for Ohiowa and the surrounding community. Visitors are welcome at any time.

Utilities:

The town's electricity is supplied by Perennial Public Power District with a two-way feed by Beatrice and Geneva. The water and sewage is supplied by the village. The community has propane service. To date, natural gas services are unavailable. Windstream is the telephone service supplier.

Municipal Services:

Ohiowa is serviced by a Volunteer Fire Department which has 27 volunteers and a First Responders Team of 9 members. The Fillmore County Sheriff's Department in Geneva provides local law enforcement. Solid waste services are currently contracted with the David City Landfill and Ohiowa has a contract with Sanitation Systems of Lincoln for a weekly sanitation pickup. Education:

Ohiowa is affiliated with and may attend the Fillmore Central District and the Bruning-Davenport Unified School District. Fillmore Central houses K-4 and 9-12 grades at Geneva sites and grades 5-8 in Fairmont. Bruning-Davenport holds classes for K-2 and 9-12 at Bruning and grades 3-8 in Davenport.

 

Recreation Facilities: Visit Fillmore County

Ohiowa has a clean, well-kept city park, an RV Park with water & electrical hookups, and a ball field. There are public theaters, golf courses, parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, country clubs, and lakes or rivers within 15 miles from Ohiowa. The Village Auditorium is available to rent for dances, receptions, meetings, etc. on a daily basis. Lone Star Recreation Area is located three miles East of Ohiowa on Road 24 just south of Highway 74. The area has camping areas, hiking, fishing, a boat ramp, restrooms and picnic areas with shelters. Phone (402) 295-2243 for more information.

Housing:

Approximately 90 percent of the residents in Ohiowa own their own homes. Several rental properties are available and there are lots available to purchase for building.

Health Facilities:

Ohiowa is served by the new Fillmore County Hospital that opened March 1, 2012. It is an acute care hospital just 16 miles northwest of Ohiowa in Geneva. The hospital is licensed by the state of Nebraska and approved for Medicare and Medicaid. Five family physicians and one physician assistant make up the local active medical staff.  Diagnostic, X-Ray, CT, MR, mammography, nuclear bone scans, nuclear cardiolite, ultrasound, and cardiac rehab are other hospital services. Specialty clinics are held on a regular basis. A dentist, two chiropractors and an optometrist have offices in Geneva as well.
